Guest and Press Reviews
At Bruern Cottages, we hold a fierce belief that we represent absolutely the last word in luxury holiday rentals. But then we would, wouldn’t we, you might think. See below for a more neutral perspective, courtesy of the media and previous guests:
It gives me enormous pleasure to review this accommodation for the second time after our initial stay in 2019. Back then, our family of six made the 24hour long haul for our first winter holiday in our beloved England. We checked into Weir House and were blown away.
First – the only negative – It’s a little away from all the touristy places of Cotswold. Or is that also a positive? Anyway, we were a group of 7 staying at the Newmarket cottage. It was clean to level that satisfied the OCD friend! The welcome basket was plentiful and great quality.
22nd (more or less) year at Bruern. We ALWAYS have an amazing time!! Bookers was basically spotless and incredibly well equipped, the welcome basket is the most plentiful you will find in the area (if not the country!).
This was the perfect place for our family of 6 (four boys 13-4) to stay at while we explored the Cotswolds. The hosts were so kind and accommodating, our cottage (the Shipton), was cozy and spacious (plus it had a washer and dryer—so convenient for traveling), and there was plenty of room outdoors for our boys to run around.
Our fourth visit to Bruern, and it never tires for us. My wife and I stayed in Cope Cottage again, while my son and his family stayed in Sandown. As usual we had a great week together, enjoying the superb grounds, the excellent swimming pool, and the local eateries.
We rented all the cottages for a family reunion never-to-be forgotten. Everyone agreed it was the best time ever.
We recently had the pleasure of staying at Bruern cottages with some friends and have to say it was absolutely outstanding. We stayed in the Bookers cottage & it was beautiful. Great gardens, really great size kitchen & lounge for everyone and the beds were comfy too!
Excellent! Highly recommend for families, especially with young children. Bruern think of everything, which means mum actually gets a break!!
Really great stay. Again… Our 19th (I think) year here and we have never had a bad experience. It Is just such a great place. We did two nights in Newmarket and two in Bookers. They were both fantastic.
We had a fantastic first stay at Bruern Cottages (6 nights)
Our family of five – two adults and three children ages 12, 10 and 4, plus our 7 year old yellow Labrador – stayed in Goodwood cottage as you can take a dog there.
Love staying in the nicely-appointed, self-catering luxurious cottage. Environment is tranquil, house is clean and well maintained, bed linens and towels are soft, and the welcome basket is impressively well provided.
Lovely cosy, clean cottage with everything you need. Delicious welcome pack and champagne. We felt very at home. Pool was very clean and lovely and warm. Nice walks nearby for the dogs.
Our third visit to Bruern, and it never tires for us. We stayed overnight only on this occasion, in Weir House, and what a lovely house it is. Big enough for an extended family with several bedrooms and reception rooms. Recommended 5*
Bruern is a magical destination- a true home away from home. If ever you have had dreams of a cottage in the English countryside this is the place. The welcome basket is truly generous- champagne and some of the finest local produce to entice your palate.
Cope cottage is a wonderful place to stay for a couple, or perhaps with one small child. We took Sandown and Cope this year. My wife and I in Cope, and my sons family in Sandown.
We have been staying at Bruern in a range of different cottages since 2002, making almost annual trips from Australia. The location is so central for not only Cotswold attractions (of which we keep finding new ones each trip) but also an easy drive for day trips to Wales, Midlands, southern and eastern destinations.
Superb location, close enough to lots of points of interest but secluded enough to bring calm. I stayed for 4 days, just myself and the dog and we loved every minute, The walks around, (a bit soggy) were really lovely, the gardens are kept beautifully.
We have been coming to Bruern for 23 years… sometimes 3 or 4 times a year since retirement. The cottages are well equipped, very comfortable and the gardens are lovely. Staff cannot do enough to help. Happy returning customers!!!
It’s been so relaxing staying in this cottage – it’s quite unusual, being large and airy and not a bit dark or oppressive as cottages can be. The gorgeous fireplace and Laura Ashley style furnishings are a delight. We have relished every detail, from the bed and gorgeous bedlinen to the welcome hamper – everything is of the best quality.
This return visit to Bruern Cottages was for 6 nights over Christmas 2022.As a couple we stayed in Cope Cottage. There is a large bedroom with a very comfortable double bed.
These Cotswolds cottages bridge the gap between luxury hotel & home away from home (and they’re so ideal for families with young children)
We rented Weir Cottage, which is just lovely. Surrounded by gardens, furnished beautifully and comfortably. Our family of 10 fell in love with the entire property.
We loved our stay at Bruern. Our cottage was beautifully done out, with lovely attention to detail. The grounds and garden were lovely, with great facilities to enjoy our stay. It was so peaceful and idyllic.
We stayed four nights at Saratoga and were absolutely delighted with the cottage. Although we did very little self catering, the surrounding area has many excellent gastro pubs, they have provided all the kitchen equipment required.
We have just returned from a weekend stay at Newmarket Cottage at Bruern Cottages, and would sum it up in one word – WONDERFUL!
We were three generations enjoying a family gathering and celebrations.
We’d heard good things about Bruern cottages and booked Shipton to celebrate a special birthday. It appealed to us because it’s on one floor and the bedrooms are all en-suite.
I’ve stayed in a number of the cottages at Bruern over the years and I come back as each cottage is beautifully appointed and everything you could want for a relaxing break.
What an amazing hidden gem in the Cotswolds, we stayed at the Aintree and what a beautiful property it is. Everything you need and more is provided – every little thing has been thought of.
Great 4 night getaway before the second lockdown.
Best holiday homes for a UK minibreak
I do love this place. Myself and my family have stayed at Bruern in different cottages for many years from Weir to Saratoga and the high standard has never dropped.
This was probably our 5th or 6th time to visit Bruern. This time was to celebrate our 60th wedding anniversary. We stayed in Cope Cottage, which is a unique, warm and cosy old mill conversion. It is perfect for 2 and is so well appointed, there is nothing lacking to make your stay perfect.
“We are an Australian family who choose the UK for our main holiday each year. We go to London and always have a week to ten days in the Cotswolds. This year we decided to have our first Christmas/ winter visit. We’ve stayed in many lovely homes throughout the Cotswolds, but this year we found Weir House at Bruern.
What better way to escape the city than to hop into a fast car and go on a road trip? Or better yet, a doggy road trip. Because there is definitely nothing better than conquering country-roads with your four-legged best friend, TeamCocopup Charlie embarked on a doggy road trip to the Cotswolds for a weekend at the beautiful Bruern Cottages.
Ten of my family stayed at Weir House, Bruern cottages, in mid April. Our party included a 5 month old baby, toddler and an 89 year old great granny.
The house was perfect.
About 2 months ago we were really kindly invited to pop along to the Cotswolds for a weekend break from the fabulous Bruern Cottages.
From the moment we turned up at Bruern Cottages we instantly knew we were going to have the break we really needed.
Wow! Stayed in the beautiful Saratoga for a long weekend to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
You know how sometimes life is feeling a bit like too much hard work, and you really just need a couple of days to take some deep breaths and have a break from home? I’ve felt like this for the last few months, and so our weekend at Bruern Cottages in the Cotswolds could not come soon enough.
