The award-winning self-catering accommodation at Bruern is a collection of classic country house-style cottages that have been wowing Cotswolds visitors for nearly 30 years. The beautiful conversion of 12 buildings began in 1992 and the Judy Astor-owned estate has become something of an oasis within a countryside oasis. Offering comfort, peace and quiet, and a home away from home (if your home has ever appeared on the front of a chocolate box, that is), it’s no wonder that guests cannot get enough of the place.

For GQ’s visit, we stayed in Goodwood Cottage and if it weren’t for the sake of politeness (and, more importantly, the fact that local gamekeepers carry guns), we might have claimed squatters’ rights. From the master bedroom, complete with king-size four-poster bed, through to the huge drawing room with sink-yourself-into-a stupor couches, every space in the house will put a smile on your face. They will also leave you a wonderful welcome basket so that you don’t need to venture out for breakfast on your first morning.

However, if you can drag yourself away from the cottage, there is also a games room, a swimming pool and beautiful communal gardens to explore. Plus, Bruern can even accommodate your four-legged friend, just to complete the perfect picture. The only thing they can’t do is alleviate the crushing sense of disappointment when it’s time to leave.
