One of the best things about luxury self-catering in the Cotswolds is that there’s so much luxury catering there in the form of gastropubs, some of it within walking distance. See below for a small selection of what’s on offer:
The Plough, Kingham
The Kingham Plough is a child friendly pub and restaurant in Kingham, less than 10 minutes from Bruern Cottages.
This traditional pub serves modern British food in a warm and relaxed atmosphere. There is an open fire place for winter diners and a sunny terrace at the back for drinks in the summer.
Please note that this pub is also dog friendly.
The Wild Rabbit, Kingham
The Wild Rabbit is a re-invention of the traditional English inn – a place to eat, drink and sleep. Situated in Kingham The Wild Rabbit serve locally sourced, seasonal food in a relaxed and welcoming setting.
This 18th century traditional English pub and restaurant was renovated in 2013 and offers a very warm atmosphere with several open fire places and hand-craft furniture. There are 2 nice terraces, at the back and at the front, ideal for a drink, lunch or diner. The food is delicious and is most of the time produce locally.
The Chequers, Churchill
In the village of Churchill, opposite the Church, the Chequers offers a very warm and vintage atmosphere.
Only down the road from Bruern Cottages, the pub is known for its activities like quiz nights, family lunches or live music.
The Hare, Milton-under-Wychwood
Located in Milton-under-Wychwood, The Hare is only a 5 minutes drive or even a 20 minutes bikes ride away to get to this traditional country pub.
The Hare is open daily, offering everything from a pint of well-kept cask ale through to a delicious three course dinner. If you are visiting on a Friday you may even catch the Champagne Happy Hour at 5pm.
The Feathered Nest, Nether Westcote
In the scenic and historic village of Nether Westcote, about 15 minutes from Bruern Cottages, you will find the Feathered Nest, a fantastic Gastro-Pub.
The owners converted this Malthouse a few years ago into a very pleasant pub with a beautiful panoramic view over the Evenlode Valley from the terrace.
The building has kept its original beauty and it is the perfect place for an al fesco lunch or dinner.
The Fox, Oddington
This quintessentially English country pub in Oddington is only a short drive from Bruern Cottages.
With old stone-walls and open fires, this old pub offers a very cosy atmosphere and delicious food. The terrace at the back is very pleasant for a drink in the summer.
The Wychwood, Shipton-under-Wychwood
Five minutes from Bruern Cottages, this pub and restaurant has been newly refurbished by the owners who have saved the original features of the building.
The food is great and traditionally English, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming.
The Wild Thyme, Chipping Norton
Over the last 13 years Nick has made the restaurant a favourite with locals and visitors to the Cotswolds, achieving many accolades for great food and loved for the warm hospitality that they provide.
The Kings Head, Bledington
This classic English country pub is within 10 minutes from Bruern Cottages. Originally a Cider House, the pub now offers traditional food and is ideal for a Sunday Roast. Child friendly.
The Swan, Swinbrook
A short distance from Bruern Cottages, The Swan is a Cotswolds country pub with great surroundings. The food is delicious and the atmosphere very welcoming. In the summer, the tables near the river and the outside terrace are delightful.
The Maytime Inn, Asthall
This historic coaching inn dates back to the 17th Century and has been recently restored by the current owners. It now provides delightful surroundings and delicious food in the village of Asthall, only 15 minutes from Bruern Cottages. Dog and Child friendly.
The Falkland Arms, Great Tew
This 16th century building is a very traditional local pub with beautiful gardens and delicious food. The open fireplace offers a cosy atmosphere in winter and the terrace is a delight in the summer.
The Village Pub, Barnsley
Just outside the town of Cirencester or on your way from Bibury, The Village Pub in Barnsley is a very classic British pub serving English dishes with tasty touches.
The Five Alls, Filkins
Nice country pub and restaurant located between the two historic villages of Burford and Lechlade on Thames.
Huffkins - Cotswolds Bakery & Tea Room
Huffkins is an independent family business that is now 125 years old. They are craft bakers with tea rooms and bakery shops in several places in the Cotswolds.
They are well recommended for Afternoon Tea of simply for patisseries and coffee to take away.
If you are looking for a nice place to have tea or even a quick lunch when visiting Burford or Stow-on-the-Wold, Huffkins is definitely the place to go. Both shops are within 15 minutes from Bruern Cottages.
