Hobbs House Bakery

The history of Hobbs House Bakery dates back to 1920, when Thomas and Mabel Herbert opened their business in Down Ampney. Through the years the bakery stuck to the traditional way of bread making, and now it has five stores in different market towns in the Cotswolds. They offer a large variety of traditional sourdough bread, buns, and cakes. You can order online or choose to go to one of their shops, the closest of them are located in Tetbury, within an hour’s drive from our luxury self-catering cottages. They also offer a number of courses in bread making, butchery, cake and pastry master classes and courses for kids. You can also watch them online on YouTube.

Bibury Trout Farm

Founded in 1902, Bibury Trout Farm is one of the oldest trout farms in the country. It covers 15 acres in Coln Valley, one of the most scenic valleys in the Cotswolds. Visitors can learn about the Rainbow and Brown trout, watch how the fish is graded and transported to new homes, and see how the feeding is done. For those who enjoy fishing, there’s an opportunity to catch their own dinner. Fishing equipment is available on site.

Bilbury Trout Farm produce is also available at farmers’ markets and restaurants across the region.

Cotswolds Cheeses

Although the Cotswolds cheeses deserve an article of their own, we’ve selected a few cheeses not to be missed if you want to enjoy luxury self-catering in the Cotswolds to the fullest. Stinking Bishop is probably one of the most famous cheeses produced locally by Charles Martell and Son. This washed-rind cheese with outstanding aroma is widely available at farmers’ markets and shops. It can also be ordered online at the cheese maker’s website.

Wiltshire Loaf is a semi-hard cheese produced by Brinkworth Dairy. This cheese, smooth on the outside and crumbly in the centre, won the Best Territorial Cheese title in 2013, and rightfully so. The farm also offers their own blue cheese, as well as other dairy products. You can find them at farmers’ markets or offer next day delivery by courier.

Godsell’s Artisan Cheeses produce a number of award-winning cheeses, such as Single Gloucester, Double Gloucester, Leonard Stanley Cheddar, Holy Smoked and more. All of the cheeses are made using milk from the farm’s own herd and one other local farm. Their produce can also be ordered online directly from the cheese makers.

If you want to expand your choice, go to The Cotswold Cheese Co, a one-stop shop with large variety of local artisan and farmhouse cheeses, including blue cheese, ewe cheese, goat cheese, with unpasteurised and vegetarian options available.

Cotswold Lion Brewery

Your dinner would be incomplete without a pint of traditional English ale. As with cheeses, the Cotswolds can boast a huge variety of locally produced ales and lagers, however, Cotswold Lion Brewery is certainly worth a visit.

Located within 40-minute drive from our luxury Cotswold cottages, this brewery welcomes visitors on Fridays and Saturdays. You will be taken through the brewing process and taste as much beer as you please.

Buy the way, the name of the brewery comes from the sheep. The Cotswold Lion is a breed of large woolly sheep and also one of the symbols of the region. Definitely worth a try.

Three Choirs Vineyards

To some, “English wine” is a contradiction in terms. However, local wine exists, and it is pretty good. Visit one of the country’s biggest single estate wineries and taste their award-winning whites and reds to dissipate scepticism about English wines.
