Children in the Cotswolds: Enjoying Bruern’s Luxury Holiday Rentals with the Whole Family

Bruern Holiday Cottages certainly does not lack in activities for the younger members of your party. We welcome children of all ages with plenty of room to run, game rooms, swimming pools, and we even work with a local babysitting service for those nights when parents want some time alone in their luxury cottages in the Cotswolds.

But children want to see more than just gardens or stay cooped up in Bruern’s wonderful accommodations. And there is certainly more for them to see beyond our luxury holiday rentals. Beyond the grounds of Bruern, here are six great attractions for children of all ages to enjoy during their visit to the Cotswolds.

The Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway

The GWR offers a beautiful ride from Toddington to Cheltenham, and a trip though the haunted Greet Tunnel-which keeps you from seeing the light at the end until you’re almost out because of the curve in the tunnel. In addition, there are museum exhibits, special fun days for children such as visits from Thomas the Tank Engine, teddy bear rides, and holiday events. You can experience a quiet, relaxing 25-mile journey, eat fish and chips prepared right in the steam engine of the train, or visit one of the interactive exhibits along the way.

The schedule for the GWR varies depending on the day and the type of train you want to ride, so with so much to do along the journey, make sure you know when and where you’re headed.

Mary Arden’s Farm

It couldn’t be a family holiday without a little culture mixed in. Over in Stratford Upon Avon, Mary Arden’s farm, the residence of William Shakespeare’s mother, is run every day by volunteers as if the Tudors themselves still lived there. Among the daily offerings are animal visits, farm tours, Tudor-style meals, and a playground for the younger children. In addition, during the summer, you might be lucky enough to catch an outdoor theatre performance at either the farm or one of the other nearby Shakespearean properties.

Mary Arden’s Farm makes for a great day trip away from Bruern’s luxury holiday rentals, and what better way to expose children to the life of the greatest writer of the English language than through a hands-on experience?

The Bird and Deer Park

If you’ve got a young one who’s curious about kookaburras, or wondering about waterfowl, The Bird and Deer Park offers exhibits on both those animals and so much more. The tame fallow deer love to be photographed and the reindeer (whose names are uncoincidentally Rudolf, Prancer, and Comet) always delight young visitors. There are daily feeding times for the animals that are open to the public and guests are invited to feed the fish in the park’s ponds.

In addition, if your child is getting ready to celebrate a birthday or special event, The Bird and Deer Park offers children’s parties-both in the Gypsy Caravan and the Bird Park, or specially themed Mad Hatter-themed tea parties during the summer. With animal adventures or trips down the rabbit hole with Alice and friends, The Bird and Deer Park can help you put on a very special and enjoyable event for the young ones.

Marshfield Ice Cream

A luxury self-catering holiday is a great way to make sure everyone has something good to eat, and an easy way to prepare means at your own leisure, but that doesn’t mean the little ones (and the adults, too) won’t be craving ice cream once in a while.

Marshfield Ice Cream is open from April to September, and is a treat not to be missed. Located in Wiltshire, their all-natural ice cream is made primarily from locally sourced ingredients and organic milk. With unique flavors like Candy Floss Crunch, Funky Banana, Caribbean Coconut, and White Chocolate with Honeycomb, everyone’s taste buds will be satisfied at this unique farm-based parlour.

Cattle Country Adventure Park

The beauty of Cattle Country Adventure Park is that there is always something to do, no matter how unpredictable the weather might be. Cattle Country Adventure Park has something for the whole family, from a miniature golf course, to outdoor obstacle courses, to indoor playbarns.

Cattle Country offers places to run, jump, splash, climb, and even pet animals. With recent extensions to the outdoor castles, seasonal events, and facilities for parties, picnics, and barbecues, the whole family can have a great day out at Cattle Country Park.

The Falconry School

Many attendees of this great attraction might say we saved the best for last on this list. The Falconry School offers courses from half-day experiences to three-day training courses, as well as many educational and interactive displays across the UK by expert falconers.

Getting to have a falcon or hawk land on your arm for the first time can be a thrilling experience, and The Falconry School does not disappoint. Their main goal is to teach people the fascinating history of falconry, as well as demonstrate the correct way to work with these beautiful creatures, and provide spectators and participants with a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
