Luxury Holiday Cottages in Bruern: Your Gateway to a Perfectly English Getaway

Great Britain has always been one of the top tourist destinations in the world, and rightfully so: both domestic and international tourists are mesmerized by the rich culture and history of the country, as well as its natural beauty. People flock to Britain to visit museums and stately homes; enjoy its beautiful scenery; and feel the piece and quiet of English countryside among the rolling hills, praised in countless works of fiction and memoirs.

An ideal English vacation would include all of the above: the tranquillity of the English hamlet with easy access to historical sites, breath-taking hiking trails, outdoor activities, and unique local dining scene. Conveniently located in West Oxfordshire among Cotswold Hills, Bruern’s luxury holiday rentals are nestled in an area of outstanding natural beauty, with easy access to the world-renowned museums, stately homes, the great outdoors, and entertainment for all family members.

Bruern Luxury Holiday Cottages in the heart of the Cotswolds

Green rolling hills, aged stone walls, lots of sheep-enjoy the iconic English countryside in Cotswolds, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in south central England. For centuries it has inspired writers, painters, composers, and filmmakers. The largest AONB of England and Wales can boast old growth beech woods and hills intertwined with tiny villages that seem to grow out of the landscape. The honey-coloured weathered Cotswold stone used for construction is unique to the area and helps the buildings blend in seamlessly.

The small hamlet of Bruern is located on the site of an ancient Cistercian abbey founded in 1147. After centuries of tumultuous history, in the 18th century, a Baroque country house was erected near the site where it once had stood, but the old monastic fishpond and acres of parkland still exist on the grounds.

In the early 1990’s, 12 of the estate buildings were converted into luxury holiday cottages that welcome holidaymakers from all over the world. The cottages accommodate anywhere from two to ten people, and are furnished with four-poster beds, state of the art kitchens, and luxurious bathrooms that put even the best hotels to shame.

What’s more, each cottage has its own terrace with garden furniture and anything you need for a barbecue or a leisurely day outside. Some cottages have their own secluded gardens; however, all of the terraces have thickly planted wide borders, providing security and intimacy expected from luxury holiday cottages.

Relax and Stay Fit with Style

Holiday rentals can be found throughout the country, but very few luxury holiday cottages in the UK can boast the level of comfort provided at Bruern. Guests can relax at an indoor heated pool in a beautiful garden, and also enjoy spa procedures that are second to none.

“The children really enjoyed the pool (ages ranged from 5 – 16). Especially as we had one wet day in our February stay. Two daughters and I had a mini facial also on site and the men enjoyed the gym.”

The spa at Bruern has specialists in reflexology and all sorts of massage, including (but not limited to) deep tissue massage, facials, and massages for pregnant ladies. It is worth noting that Bruern facilities are featured in Tatler’s “101 Best Spas”, acknowledging their effort at providing the best service to their guests.

Those who prefer activity to relaxation will find an excellent gym on site. It is equipped with all the necessary tools to keep up with their exercise routine, including running and rowing machines, cross trainer, free weights, and more.

You’re Most Wholeheartedly Welcome (And We Have a Welcome Basket to Prove It)

Nothing compares to a hearty meal accompanied by cold champagne after getting to your holiday destination. As great as self-catering may be (and with state of the art kitchens in Bruern’s luxury holiday cottages it is a pleasure of its own), it shouldn’t be your prime concern when you arrive. That is why we provide our guests with a complimentary welcome basket of essentials (and a few luxuries) to help them immediately feel at home.

We’ve filled your basked with locally sourced specialties, including bacon and sausages; cheese and dairy; jams and cakes and other essentials for your English breakfast or an afternoon tea. We also added champagne from one of the oldest firms in the Champagne region to celebrate the beginning of an unforgettable holiday at Bruern.

Many of them offer live music, quiz nights, and entertainment for all members of the family, old and young.

Out and About: Things to Do Outside Bruern

If you gather the willpower to leave the Bruern luxury holiday cottages (as hard as it can be), you will soon discover what amazing vacation activities Cotswold has to offer, from museums and shopping to horseback riding and shooting ranges.

Oxford and Cheltenham with their world-class museums, shopping and entertainment, are within driving distance from Bruern. There are many historic homes located in the area, including Blenheim Palace and Gardens, Sudeley Castle, Warwick Castle and Chedworth Roman Villa. The beautiful town of Stratford-upon-Avon that breathes Shakespeare is also close by, to say nothing of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s theatres.

Outdoor activities include numerous hiking trails; the local equestrian centres offer riding lessons and scenic rides in the Cotswolds.

Also on the menu are golf (check out the Wychwood Golf Course), shooting (taught at Oxfordshire Shooting School, one of the country’s best shooting facilities), and archery classes.

Children and parents alike will enjoy Cotswold Water Park, with more than a hundred lakes spreading over 40 square miles. Children will also like the Model Village, a one-ninth scale replica of an English Village, and a visit to the Cotswold Farm Park will be the highlight of your English countryside experience for years to come.

“There are cottages to cater for small and large groups, the swimming pool is fabulous and there is no end of play equipment for the children…. ranging from bikes, scooters, ride on tractors and play houses.”
