Garden Lovers’ Weekends
We are offering a series of Garden Lovers’ Weekends this spring.
Bruern has its own celebrated walled garden, which was lovingly nurtured by head gardener Mr Mitchell from 1957 up until his death last year. His legacy is now entrusted to two full time gardeners, Pat and Ollie from Natural Landscapes, who have been hard at work planting bulbs (almost ten thousand go into the ground each year) to ensure the cottages are surrounded by a sea of colour this spring.
Perfect for botanists, horticulturalists and walkers alike, we have devised a series of weekends to divert and delight guests who wish to explore six of the best gardens in the Cotswolds, some of which are regarded as among England’s most prized and famous, others being treasures only for those who know. At Rousham in Steeple Aston, no shops, tea rooms or visitors’ centres are allowed to disturb the tranquillity of William Kent’s landscaping; Hidcote Manor Garden is a procession of outdoor rooms partitioned by some of the most famous topiary in the country, and decorated with exotic plant species that were first introduced to England on this very spot by the garden’s creator, Major Lawrence Johnston.
Upon arrival at Bruern, guests will discover not only a delicious home made cake and biscuits fresh from the WI but also a trug containing a trowel, secateurs and gardening gloves (in case they feel the urge to do a spot of weeding during their stay); a list of recommended gardens or places to visit and why; a hand tied collection of vintage gardening books by Vita Sackville-West and a series of individual pocket sized guides to trees and shrubs to take with you whilst you explore the beautiful surrounding countryside.
Bruern is a place for all seasons just as the Cotswolds are themselves: you can mark the advent of Spring with a visit to Kiftsgate to see the spectacular Magnolias, return in June to catch the end of the lilacs at Sezincote, visit Stowe in the gentle warmth of an Indian Summer, or spend October staying put at Bruern itself, where the golden Cotswold stone is only softened by contrast with the blazing Autumn leaves.
All guests who visit Bruern can take the beautiful collection of gardening books home with them and will receive a rose bush (we have over one hundred and thirty varieties of rose) packed in a slatted wooden box with a jar of rose petal jam to plant in their own garden and remind them of their stay.
Garden Lovers Weekends are available from May to September with prices starting from £553 per person.
